Our History

MOEL TRADING is registered in the Republic of Kiribati as a limited company on 10 January 1996 under the registration number of 83.  Prior to this mile stone the company was operating as JMKK Store and situated at the central business area at Betio, Tarawa.

 

Following her recognition as importer, wholesaler and retailer the company planned for the construction of her supermarket project on the commercial center of Betio, Tarawa.  The operation was managed by the then General Manager and Founder, the late Johnny Kum Kee.

 

In 1999 her wife, Tekaewaniti Kum Kee, a former bank employee at that time joined MOEL Trading as Managing Director and jointly managed their investment in the business with her late husband.  In 2006, Johnny sadly passed away in Melbourne hospital and the business had to be repatriated to Tarawa where he rested in piece.  From that moment Tekaewaniti had to manage the business alone.  The company had grown in her market share and work force of around 200.

 

Since then MOEL Trading has grown her market share of the business as well as work force and becomes one of the major importers, wholesalers and retailer with a distribution network throughout the islands of Kiribati.  MOEL is also the sole distributor of certain product brands, e.g. Nestle products, Colgate & Palmolive, Irish Cake, etc.

The company has expanded its investment into Internet Service Provider (ISP) under the name of TeNiCom.  This service is currently concentrated on South Tarawa & Betio, urban areas.
